Interactive Comms: Interface and design

In todays session of interactive comms we have taken a look at different interfaces used in webistes, games and other mediums.

Concept Art.Org

Simplified, gallery based design allows for easy access to the creators own gallerys. Advertisements on page are linked to the theme of the website, namely various publications on how to draw digitally and paint concept oriented pieces and designs. The avatr for each gallery  is a concpet piece which summarises the featured artists overall tone and style. This allows users to selectively view galleries which interest them.

Kotaku: The Gamers's Guide

The layout of Kotaku is fiendishly simplistic. The narrow, list based format allows for easy reading and access to stories and the list itself is organized by date. Therefore newer, more current topics will be
displayed at the top. This is in keeping with the impatient nature of the main target audience of gamers and internet users for whom information travels faster than light.

Far Cry 2

Far Cry is an immersive first person shooter that does away with the conventional idea of a heads up display and instead uses dynamic models in the game to display important information. The players position, map orientation and direction are indicated by a map used in game and the time is displayed on a watch attached to the player model. The traditional information such as ammuntion count and player health are still displayed on a normal HUD, yet it fades away after a few seconds to give the player a look at the impressive landscapes in the game.
